Debenhams Goes Twitter!
Debenhams is providing customers with a direct line to shop floor staff via Twitter. The retailer is launching a trial, making its front-line staff contactable via the social network, to provide better service for bargain hunters during its hotly anticipated Megaday sale.
Selected staff members in the Oxford Street store will be provided with BlackBerrys enabling them to respond to customers’ Twitter queries during the sale. Any and all messages are encouraged; from requests for a jumper in a different size to a query for help zipping up a dress. Social networkers outside of the store will also be invited to pose questions for the assistants, encouraging them to visit the store later on in the day.
Since celebrities including Russell Brand, Chris Moyles and Lily Allen began using Twitter, it has become a mainstream social network and one that counts a lot of Debenhams customers amongst its audience.
Ed Watson, Head of PR at Debenhams told Lingerieblog.co.uk: “Our Megaday sale is one of the busiest times, so using Twitter in this way will be the equivalent of having a dedicated shop assistant with you for the entire time you are in our store.
“We believe it will give Debenhams a real commercial advantage too. Instant communication with our customers as they do their shopping is a tremendous asset. We intend to develop this approach for the future”.
