Hi Darlings pleasure to meet you, my name is Melissa Franchi the designer of a sensually crafted brand that goes by Nevaeh. Our lingerie focuses on taking cues from Old Hollywood glamour, while mixing in modern day versatility.
What inspired you to become a lingerie designer?
Fashion has always interested and inspired me the beauty, the production, the spectacle. I think it all started in my teens I would watch my dear friends mother make garments and would sit with her and create these sultry chemises. From this point on my interest was sparked. I wanted the opportunity to create something that was beautiful/desirable externally for the eyes to see as well as internally through emotions one feels.
What makes your designs different from others?
We are not only here to create desires but fulfil them as well.
Nevaeh’s designs are unique in that we strive to create comfortable sultry lingerie that is luxurious however can be worn from day into night. I love details and options they are the most important components in my creations. You can see this through contrasting textures w/ hardware, mixing colours inserts, removable and adjustable options allowing femininity to meet function, offering flexibility.
Do you wear your own products?
Of course I wear Nevaeh! Would be a shame not to.
What’s your favourite lingerie brand (not your own!) and why?
I can’t choose just one with so, many brands out in the market. My panty drawer represents a little bit of ID Sarrieri, Damaris, Stella McCartney, Ell&Cee, Kiki de Montparnasse, CoCo de Mer, and Nevaeh.
Do you think there’s enough choice for D+ sizes?
I feel the market has become more aware of this need offering a lot more options then before. Both new and already established companies are expanding their size ranges to accommodate these women however there is still room for growth styling wise.
We here also acknowledge these women and the unique differences in their shapes offering size ranges 30D-40D as well as XS-XL.
What advice would to give to an aspiring lingerie/swimwear designer?
Allow yourself the freedom to take in beauty while absorbing all the aspects of this industry. Be determined to follow your dreams and not afraid to create.
How do you get your inspirations for new collections?
I draw inspiration from life experiences, conjuring up feelings whether it’s through the arts such as movies, dance, music, and reading. Travelling as well as our surroundings, desires have an impact. Something triggers a theme and then I become submerged in it. I like to focus on taking a bit of the past and rolling it up with a modern twist. Currently I’m obsessed with Jean-Luc Godard and Anna Karina.
Do you use paper and pencil to design your first draft or is it all done on computer?
I still do use paper and pencil for my first draft. You can translate your idea in a whim allowing more freedom when designing concepts. The final cuts are then transferred and created in CADs.
What are you working on right now?
Since we are a fairly new brand my feet are wet in a little bit of this a little bit of that tieing up loose ends, fall orders, production, and most importantly feeding inspiration tor Spring concepts. Oh, and enticing gift sets!
What makes a great lingerie model?
A woman when you look into her eyes radiates this sense of desirable strength no matter what shape or size she may be. She knows her body, how it works and can make glamour look effortless and casual.
